On New Year’s Day, we got together in Hillsborough with nearly 600 of our friends to stage the Eleventh Annual Resolution Run 5K Walk and Run. The weather was the best ever - in the 50’s and sunny! (Gary wore shorts.) Hillsborough Massage Therapy was the Presenting Sponsor. A new course record was set and we all munched on Soft Philly Pretzels after our efforts. Although Debby had to pass up the race due to a lingering cold, the rest of us were there (as were a number of you). Massage Licensure A bit over four years ago, the NJ Legislature passed a bill requiring all massage therapists to be licensed. The Governor subsequently signed the bill and a Board of Massage Therapy was established. Proposed Rules and Regulations were published last year and the comment period has now ended. The Board will review all comments and make changes as it sees necessary prior to final publishing. In a nutshell, no one in New Jersey will be able to call themselves a Massage Therapist or practice massage unless they are Licensed by the state. All therapists who are currently Nationally and State Certified will now become Licensed; all six of us currently meet these guidelines. We welcome these changes and have worked with the American Massage Therapy Association to move our profession forward. Our “New Look” (Continued) All the massage rooms are finished with our New Look. Just a few doors and accent areas to spruce up and we can have a party! Seriously, we are proud of our refurbished offices and hope you visit soon to give us your comments. Where we are, What we’re doing… - Kathy’s putting those “finishing touches” on the offices. She’s also busy learning how to make custom chocolates. The rest of us, of course, try to help her as much as possible by providing constant “feedback” (sorry) on her creations. Kathy’s continuing with her resolution to run a 5K each month. First she did the Resolution Run in January; in February she’s doing the ”Winter Hot Chocolate 5K Series” in Long Branch. Seems to be a regular “Chocolate” theme here! - Penny has been in western Pennsylvania teaching Introduction to Childbirth and Doula classes. She also had a Doula client deliver a healthy, happy baby recently. - To see Penny’s training schedule, see the Doula Page of our website. - Gary’s been planning his race/training schedule for the year. Highlights include the World’s Long Course Triathlon Championship in Spain as a member of the USA Triathlon Team and then returning for the Inaugural New York City Ironman, 13 days after the July 29th race in Spain. His 30 week training program began January 2. And, he needs to learn Spanish. Calendar Wednesday, February 1 – Our famous Hot Foot Bath Workshop, 7 pm.
