Hillsborough Massage Therapy LLC
Therapeutic and Sports Massage
Therapy Types Available
|Various massage types and techniques (“modalities”) are outlined below. The Client, after discussion with the Therapist, decides which techniques will be emphasized for a tailored massage session.
Swedish Relaxation Massage - a relaxing massage utilizing a series of long, gliding strokes and gentle kneading techniques on the muscles, combined with active and passive movements on the joints. The most popular type of massage, best known for rejuvenating both mind and body.
Myofascial (Deep Tissue) Massage - a therapy focusing on specific areas of the body to re-balance and reduce tension by stretching and manipulating fascia (underlying the skin) and muscles. The treatment requires active participation and communication from the client.
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) - also known as "Trigger Point Therapy," targets tender spots in the body that may cause muscle pain, spasms or pain referrals. Varying levels of pressure are applied to the "trigger points" using fingertips, knuckles, elbow, or a pressure bar to reduce tightness, pain or spasms.
Sports Massage - massage performed either in preparation for a future event or to promote recovery after an event. Sports Massage may include Myofascial and Neuromuscular techniques, plus assisted stretching methods. We have considerable experience working with all levels of athletes and exercisers, and have worked with runners, walkers, hikers, swimmers, bicyclists, triathletes, racquet sport enthusiasts, golf players and others.
In recognition of the special needs of young athletes and their parents, we offer a special 45-minute session at a reduced cost. See Young Athlete flyer.
Integrative Massage - combines all the techniques addressed above in a uniquely customized and individualized approach specifically tailored to your well-being.
Ashi-Thai - an expression of traditional Thai massage where the therapist uses legs and feet to deliver the techniques. Compression and stretching are combined to help the client increase flexibility, promote relaxation, reduce stress, improve range of motion, increase energy, encourage circulation and center the mind and body. Wear comfortable clothing. No oils or creams used. 60 minute session or as a 30 minute add-on to a 60 minute session.
Bamboo-Fusion Massage - Warm pieces of bamboo in different shapes and sizes glide over the muscles, deeply kneading them to relieve tightness. The warmth from the bamboo melts the muscles, allowing the therapist to sink more deeply into the tissue to release trigger points.
Thai Massage - an energizing and relaxing session performed on the table. It consists of gentle stretching and compression techniques which follow the energy lines of the body. Available at a slight extra charge with warm herbal packs.
Custom Stone Therapy - using hot stones placed strategically and massaging with heat, your therapist softens your muscles and balances your energy while providing deep relaxation.
Prenatal Massage - designed for expectant mothers, this therapy utilizes gentle, soothing strokes to help stabilize hormonal levels, decrease fluid retention, and relieve muscle strain of the lower back, abdomen, and shoulders. A perfectly relaxing treat for both Mother and Baby!
CranioSacral Therapy - the soft-touch release of restrictions in the CranioSacral System. Working with the CranioSacral rhythm, the therapist finds restrictions and allows the body to return to a more comfortable state. Healing continues for days. Read more about CranioSacral Therapy. Services provided by a therapist trained by the Upledger Institute.
